This is an incredibly rare old bottle of Powers that most likely dates from the 1970s. It is the oldest age statement Powers we have come across by a good margin and offers a unique opportunity to try some old John’s Lane distillery whiskey at a very mature age.
Interestingly this was an independent bottling from Donnelly and Co in Dublin and was made specially for Donald E Panoz. Mr Panoz moved to Dublin in the late 1960s to set up a pharmaceutical company and owned the patent for nicotine patches. He went on to form many other companies but most notably became a Le Mans team owner and car builder. Eventually he would bring the Le Mans series to the USA and he still operates a team called Delta Wing Racing. It is possible that this was bottled for export to the US as the alcohol contents are in US proof and fluid is 750ml. The condition of the bottle is excellent with some very minor staining to the bottom label.
